Tour de Plett Cycle Fest 2012
Plettenberg Bay, the jewel of the Garden Route, will be staging a 2 day festival of cycling on the weekend of 30th June and 1st July 2012. Organized and run by the MTN Club 100 Plettenberg Bay, the event caters for both mountain bikers and roadies with superb routes planned on and off the tar.
MOUNTAIN BIKE RACES
75KM / 50KM / 30KM MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE SATURDAY 30TH JUNE (R90 FOR 75KM / and 50KM) (R60 FOR 30KM)
Saturday 30th June will see the mountain bikers heading out from Wittedrift, over the Stofpad and through the stunning Protea Wilds and Petrus se Brand, taking a newly chartered route through MTO forests and pedalling home amongst the giraffe, eland and wildebeest of the spectacular Buffalo Hills Game Reserve (www.buffalohills.co.za). Riders can relax at the finish line in the Wittedrift NG Church grounds while enjoying the tasty offerings of the food, drink and beer tents.
ROAD RACES
110KM / 70KM / 35KM / 20KM ROAD BIKE RACE SUNDAY 1ST JULY (R110 FOR 110KM and 70KM / R60 FOR 35KM and 20KM)
This race will form part of the SWD league series, distances will be added to suit their needs. 70km, 35km, 20km. Everybody can enter these distances.
Sunday 1st July is the day for the roadies to show what they’re made of,110KM Riders leaving from Marine Drive in Plett and enjoying the fast and flat route along the N2 all the way to the Coldstream turnoff. The way home goes down into Blaauw Kranz Pass, down in Nature’s Valley Pass and back up to the N2, giving hill climbers a chance to test their mettle. Riders finish at the Plett NG Kerk in Marine Drive via the Shell off ramp, where their hard work on the saddle will be rewarded by food, drink and beer tents.70KM Riders will turn right at Tollgates,go through Natures Valley and back to Plett..35KM will turn in Keurbooms at Kettle beach back up the old pass to N2 and straight back to Plett.20Km Riders will turn at Wybo's on Keurbooms road,heading straight back to Plett.
